(The following information is from the website)
Red Sox, 1969-1978 All Star: 1973 The "Spaceman" Bill Lee has to be one of the most colorful players ever to don a Red Sox uniform. Never daring to contradict the common perception of left-handers as "Screwballs," Lee constantly amazed the Red Sox faithful with his eccentric behavior on and off the field, whether it was his patented "Moonball" pitch or his off-the-wall comments. Behind the eccentricity, however, was a baseball purist, who lamented the institution of the designated hitter rule, domed stadiums and artificial turf. Lee's All-star season in 1973 saw his first of three consecutive 17-win seasons. His years with the Red Sox had their high point during the 1975 world series season, when he went 17-9 with four shutouts. Starting games two and seven, Lee pitched well in each of his starts, but was unable to notch a decision.
